His parents, Guy E. and Florence M. (Talbert) Rideout proudly welcomed their son into the world on April 12, 1925 in Pittsfield, NH. He grew up in Pittsfield and attended Pittsfield High School.
A resident of Keene for the past 69 years, Ken worked as a surveyor with the Army Corp of Engineers, and was part of the surveying team during the building of Surry Mountain Dam. He later worked for 42 years as a lead man with the former Kingsbury Corporation in Keene, retiring in 1987. Ken obtained his real estate broker’s license and partnered with his wife, Jane, in the Rideout Insurance and Real Estate Agency.
Having an astute mind and skilled hands, Ken was skilled in archery, horseshoes, bowling and shuffle board. Many card games with the family and friends was also a favorite, most especially cribbage.
Ken was an avid golfer, and especially enjoyed playing Bretwood Golf Course where many friendships formed over 45 plus years. His 3 daughters made him proud and the time spent with them was special. Their activities were as important as his own. He was a member of many organizations, including the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Knights of Columbus 4th Degree; and the Gordon Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Keene.
Family was the most important part of his life, and he enjoyed that life to the fullest!
He will be greatly missed by his loving family including his wife of 69 years, Jane (Rocheleau) Rideout of Keene; three daughters, Gayle A. Buchanan of Keene, Kendra J. Hanlon and her husband, Brian, of Keene, Rebecca E. Morgan and her husband, Daniel, of Hampton, NH; seven grandchildren, Kelly Neault, Matthew Neault and his fiancé, Leah Boucher, Eammon Hanlon and his wife, Laura, Katherine Hanlon and her partner, Savannah Homans, Josef Hanlon and his fiancé, Lindsey, Jack Morgan, Hannah Morgan; two great-grandsons, Jamison Hanlon and Jacob Hanlon; two brothers-in-law, Martin Rocheleau of Fitzwilliam, NH and, James Thompson of Keene; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bernard Rideout, Sr., and a sister, Norma Thompson.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH. Burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday afternoon from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. The John Fitzgerald Kennedy Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will form an honor guard at the funeral home and conduct a prayer service at 3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mr. Rideout’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
