She was born on July 6, 1933 in Winsted, CT, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Zavatkay) Dietlin. She attended area schools and furthered her education at Packard Business School in New York City where she received her Degree.
On January 2, 1954 she married William D. Horne III. They resided in Westport, CT for a number of years while raising their seven children. In 1972 they moved to Keene, NH. While LaVerne was a busy and dedicated mother, she still found time to contribute to operating the family businesses. LaVerne and her husband Bill owned Northcraft Furniture Manufacturing a Bed and Breakfast, and Academy House Picture Framing.
LaVerne cherished her family and the time they were able to spend together. She especially enjoyed cheering on her children and grandchildren in their various sporting events. LaVerne made everyone around her feel like they, too, were part of her family. She is fondly remembered as having a kind and positive spirit and never having a bad word to say about anyone. She was quite a woman, so strong in belief and fortitude.
Outside of work and family, LaVerne was a member of The Red Hat Society, the Women’s Club, and actively participated in Senior Aerobics, Pulmonary Exercise Classes and various Bridge groups.
LaVerne is survived by five children: Lynda Botty of Chesterfield, NH, Susan Horne of Swanzey, NH, Leslie Horne of Swanzey, NH, Eric Horne and his wife Teresa of Marlborough, NH, and Jeffery Horne of Rockingham, VT; grandchildren: Jessie Bell and her husband Michael of Rindge, NH, Kyle Kamal and his wife Zinnia of Duncan, OK, Katey Davenport and her husband Travis of West Chesterfield, NH, Liliane Farrar of New Boston, NH, Grace Horne of Marlborough, NH, and William Horne of Marlborough, NH, great-gradchildren: Xander Kamal of Duncan, OK, Desmond Kamal of Duncan, OK, and Madison Bell of Rindge, NH; and sister-in-laws: Cindi Dietlin of Simsbury, CT and Marion Horne of Springfield, VT.
She was predeceased by her loving husband: William D. Horne III; sons: William D. Horne IV and Craig C. Horne; and siblings: Barbara McCarthy, Joyce Ryan, Charles Dietlin, and Eugene Dietlin.
LaVerne will be dearly missed by her family and all those who came to know and love her. The family is deeply appreciative and thankful to Dr. Remeline Damasco at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, to Hospice at HCS and all the wonderful people who devoted their care, concern and support which allowed her to remain at home. The family would also like to thank the many people who came to visit her.
