Lawrence Sidney Burdick, 87, passed peacefully on December 20, 2023. Larry was the son of the late Alton G. and Ruth E. (Partridge) Burdick, born in Boonville, NY on July 14, 1936. He grew up in Old Forge, NY in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, and later in New Hartford and Clinton, NY where he attended schools prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1954 where he served until 1958, honorably discharged. He moved to Keene, NH and married June K. (Safford), September 16, 1961, they were married 44 years until her passing in 2005. Larry married Patricia (King-Spooner) May 8, 2010 in Jaffrey, NH.
Larry was a member of the New Hartford Swim Team, and The Boys Club in Utica, NY, he served as a fireman and worked in the Burdick family store in Old Forge, NY in his younger years. Larry worked at A.E. Martell Co., Keene for many years and retired from the United States Post Office, in Keene, where he worked for 26 years. He went on to serve as a Bailiff at the Cheshire County Courthouse for a few more years of employment. He had an interest in coin collecting, enjoyed reading and playing card games, poker and cribbage.
Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia Spooner-Burdick, of Jaffrey, NH; his daughter, Sandra D. Hoag (Lyle) of West Chesterfield, NH and his son, Douglas V. Burdick, of West Swanzey, NH, his wife’s children, Jeffrey (Kelly) Spooner, of Winchendon, MA, Scott (Lisa) Spooner, of Rutland, VT, Edward (Tonni) Spooner, of Eliot, ME, Karla (Brent) Charles, of Jaffrey, NH and Shawn (John) Spooner, of Sutton, MA. As well as his and his wife’s many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he enjoyed greatly. He is also survived by his siblings, Sherrill Butch Burdick (Linda) of Rome, NY, Daniel K. Burdick (Kathy) of Utica, NY, and Heidi L. Spartano (Chris) of Selkirk, NY.
He was pre-deceased by his older sister Barbara Schultz and her husband, Kenneth, as well as a nephew David Schultz.
Heartfelt thanks are given to Karla and Brent, who compassionately cared for Larry, helping him to be comfortably at home with Patricia and to Home Health Care and Hospice of Keene, NH and Home Together Healthcare, of Fitzwilliam, for support and care services.
A memorial service will be held at Fletcher Funeral Home, Marlboro St., Keene, NH on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 4 p.m. There will be a private burial with military honors at the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, NH.
