Born in Keene, NH, on August 10, 1937, she was the only child of Clement and Dorothy (Stone) Jarvis and lived her entire life in Swanzey.
After graduating High School, Lorraine married Roger Whipple on August 25, 1956 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage until his death in 2017. While married, Lorraine and Roger were regulars at places like the Swanzey Diner, The Pub, Jim Eddies and Panera Bread where they met friends for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Together they also spent many summers vacationing in Maine with her parents, and her Aunt and Uncle, Joseph and Ruth Labrie.
Lorraine spent her entire career working for and with Robert L. Mallat, Jr., during his time as Mayor of Keene, NH and followed him as his personal secretary when he began working for Keene State College in Resource Administration. Everyone who knew Lorraine would comment on her white hair, flawless style and her most exquisite handwriting.
Lorraine enjoyed spending time doing handwork, especially Counted Cross Stitch, to which she was a perfectionist. But her most treasured time was with her “Dear One” Roger.
Lorraine is survived by her Aunt Ruth Labrie, of Athol, her Godson Butch Labrie of Athol, her Goddaughter Lauren LeFrancois of Waynesboro, Virginia, and her cousin Gayle Bassett of Athol, who was her caregiver for the last 6.5 years. She is also survived by many cousins from both the Stone and Jarvis families.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, December 19th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am at St. Bernards Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Main Street, Keene, NH.
While flowers would be gratefully accepted, the family would prefer donations in Lorraine’s memory be sent to the donor’s favorite charity.
