Lucille Janet Dean
January 22, 1935 – August 6, 2018
Lucille Janet Dean, 83 of Spofford, NH and St. Pete Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018 with family by her side at Genesis Keene Center.
She was born on January 22, 1935 in Bellows Falls, VT, the daughter of Ruth (Chickering) Schofield and George Cobb. After the passing of her father, Norman Schofield of Walpole became her stepfather. She grew up in Walpole and attended area schools. Upon high school completion, Lucy went on to study at Becker College in Worcester, MA.
On May 19, 1962 Lucy married her loving companion, Norman Wilton Dean.
Lucy retired after working as an Instructional Assistant at Cutler Elementary School. She adored working with children and often joked she had been in sixth grade for 23 years. Prior to finding her passion of working in the school system, Lucy had been a Medical Secretary in Miami, FL, and worked locally as a Quality Control Secretary at MPB and in advertising for Markem.
As the matriarch of the family, Lucy was someone that everyone looked up to. She was loved by all, but even more so, she loved every one that crossed her path. She was quick to take those around her in as family and once Lucy’s family, always Lucy’s family. Lucy had been referred to as “one of the strongest women ever known”. She had a sharp wit, loved a good joke, and had a no BS attitude.
Lucy stayed involved with her community as a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends playing cards and board games. Luck was always on Lucy’s side. She liked a good mystery book, adding to her stamp collection, and researching genealogy.
Lucy will be dearly missed by her husband of over 56 years, Norman W. Dean of Spofford, NH and St. Pete Beach, FL; sons: Charles N. Dean of Rochester, NH, and Douglas W. Dean of Manchester, NH; twin sister who was constantly being reminded that she was the “younger one”: Lois Cobb Carter of Largo, FL; step-brothers: Gordon Schofield and his wife Sandra of Hinsdale, NH, and Peter Schofield and his wife Cathy Eakins-Schofield of Brattleboro, VT; brother-in-law: Russell Dean and his wife Barbara of Troy, NH and Turners Falls, MA; sisters-in-law: Janet Mace of Rockford, IL, and Martha Judson and her husband Robert of Exeter, NH; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
She is predeceased by her brothers-in-law Charles Carter and William Mace, and her sister-in-law Mary Ann Dean.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 13 at 10:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Walpole, NH, 15 Washington Square, with burial to follow at the Freidsam Cemetery in Chesterfield, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lucille J. Dean’s name to St . Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.StJude.org).

Oh Norm, my heart is breaking for you. I am so sorry about Lucy. I am sure she and Dick are up there right now talking about the fun times we had together.
Wish we had gotten together this past winter, but life gets too busy and you only realize it when you lose a friend or loved one.
When you come back down let me know and I will be happy to drive down to see you. Sure will miss her jams.
Love and prayers to you and the family.
