Mary Carey

She was born in Surry on February 7, 1919, the daughter of George and Christina (Shaw) Malcolm. She grew up in Surry and was a 1937 graduate of Keene High School.

She married Oren B. Carey in 1938 in Keene.

The things she enjoyed most during her long and productive life were gardening, crocheting, flea markets, square and Ball Room dancing, and hunting and fishing in her younger years.

Mrs. Carey spent her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She is remembered by her family as strong, independent, hardworking and feisty.

She is survived by her daughters Beverly and Leroy Champagne of Auburn, NY, Audrey and James O’Brien of Keene and Mary-Lee and Krail Seatton also of Keene; sister-in-law Shirley Carey of Keene; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her husband Oren B. Carey, son Douglas B. Carey, granddaughter Jody J. O’Brien and five brothers all died earlier.

Services for Mrs. Carey will be held in the spring. Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH have been entrusted with the arrangements. (www.fletcherfuneralhome.com)
