She was born on July 10, 1929 in Mapleton, Maine to Lewis A. McPherson and Marie D. (Elliot) McPherson. Living on a potato farm at the bottom of Haystack Mountain she spent her days in the fields or with the farm animals who she said were her best friends. Known as "Babe" she was the youngest of 8 children.
Mary and her husband, Malcom "Mac" Wellington Hull came to New Hampshire by train in 1945. They lived a short time in Keene, NH before moving to Gilsum where they rented a Texaco station in town before opening their own business, the Gilsum Garage in 1948. She worked at the former MacKenzie’s in Keene, the High Street Nursing home in Gilsum, and spent a lot of time caring for the children in town. She was everyone's grandmother, you never left with a hungry belly or without a smile.
She enjoyed sitting in the sun, walking to the post office where she'd stop and chat to everyone on the way. She loved shopping, puttering around the house, checking out her flowers, cardinals, hummingbirds and a good cup of tea. She loved music, singing and dancing. What made her the happiest was seeing others laughing and happy. She always had a candy dish and snacks ready for company. Mary and Mac vacationed often in their 1926 Chrysler. They participated in local engine and tractor shows, including the tractor pulls at the Cornish Fair.
In 2010, Mary was recognized as the Citizen of the Year for the Town of Gilsum.
In recent years she looked forward to Sunday lunch with her daughters and their daily visits bringing dinner and mail; her morning phone calls from her best friend Ruby Morse; visiting her sons and her grandson at the garage; her visits and laughs with her granddaughter Jessica.
Providing Mary with great care in recent years was her granddaughter, Robin. She looked forward to Thursdays every week when they would go on shopping adventures.
Mary was an amazing soul who is greatly loved and will be deeply missed, but it is never goodbye, it's "I'll see you later".
She will be missed by many, especially her children, Marie A. Garrapy, Maxine E. Ballou, Michael L. Hull and his wife, Shirley, Marc A. Hull and his wife, Tammy, all of Gilsum; her grandchildren, Kim Nikopoulos, Jeff Coppo, Brandie Chamberlin, David Garrapy, Greg Lagimoniere, Amanda Hull, Beth Hull, Michael Hull, Robin Scott, Jessica Hull, Robert "Hubie" Hull, Rhonda Hull, Heidi Bobeen, Becky Hull, "Little" Ron Distin, and their spouses and children; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
