Melville "Mel" David Andrews

His parents, Rosemary (Wooster) and David T. Andrews, Sr. welcomed their son into the world on January 29, 1949, in Cambridge, MA. He grew up in Bronxville, NY and later Litchfield, CT, attending St. Thomas Choir School in NY as a youth. He graduated from Blair Academy Boarding School in New Jersey.

He was a graduate of UCONN receiving a bachelor’s degree in English.

Mel worked for over 30 years in sales and designing acrylic display cases with Clear Solutions Inc. of Hinsdale, NH.

Uncertain of where he would establish roots, Mel’s life journey took him to Green Lake, ME where he owned and operated a campground for a short time. He later ventured to Alstead, NH where he raised sheep and dabbled as a skilled carpenter. It was from this point on that Mel never ventured far from the area, residing in Swanzey, Spofford and back to Keene.

A lover of music since a young man, Mel found himself along with many, attending the famous Woodstock music festival, a journey he reflected on with great joy.

He brought so much listening enjoyment to many with his role as a member of the Cheshiremen Chorus for over thirty years and as a member of their quartet, Junction 135. Mel was a fixture at the Keene Lions Club’s annual musical productions performing in a key role in their production of the Music Man with his barbershop quartet. He was also a member of the Small Pond Productions community theater group and several Raylynmor Opera Gilbert and Sullivan Productions.

A longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church in Keene, Mel was a member of their choir for over 25 years, and served in the role of church vestry, and assisted with the training of the church acolytes.

He was an avid NY Yankees fan. He also was an avid chef with an extremely sophisticated palette.

His harmoniously beautiful voice will be greatly missed by many in our community, but more so by his wife of 24 years, Barbara R. (Hickey) Andrews of Keene; a sister, Dr. Alice Frazier and her husband Dr. Ron Frazier of Delaware, OH; a brother, Rev. David T. Andrews, Jr. and his wife Rev. Emily Gibson of Wilmington, DE; his sisters-in-law, Kathleen H. Conwell and her husband John of Marlborough, NH, Julie A. Aldrich and her husband Fred H. Aldrich III of Keene; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00am in St. James Episcopal Church, 44 West Street, Keene. Burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to the staff of Maplewood Nursing home for their wonderful care and compassion provided to Mel during his stay with them.
