He was born In Keene, NH on March 17, 1922 the son of Antonio and Elenor (Coppo) Carbone.
Michael was a lifelong resident of Keene and was a Keene High School graduate. He served with the US Navy as a Radioman Second Class and served in the European and Pacific Theaters during WWII. He was employed by the Kingsbury Tool Company in Keene for more than twenty years and then was employed as a logistics supervisor for thirty-one years by the U.S. Department of Defense out of the Boston, MA office. Mike was very proud that he never missed a day of work in his tenure with the Department.
Mike served the community of Keene as a member of the Keene City Council for six years and also as a Special Keene Police Sergeant for nineteen years. He was a communicant and served as an usher at St. Bernard’s Church for more than sixty years. He was Past Chairman of the St. Joseph School Board, and also served on the Parish Council at the Parish of the Holy Spirit. He was a member of the Keene Council Knights of Columbus#819 and was a member and Past Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Fourth Degree Assembly. He was an active member of the William Marconi Italian Society and a member of the Keene Post 799 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by three sons: Michael P. Carbone and his wife Bonnie of Tiverton, RI,
Gary W. Carbone and his wife Eileen of The Villages, FL, and Timothy J. Carbone and his wife Maria of Keene, NH. Six grandchildren; Elsje Eisenhauer and her husband Eric, Kristen Moniz and her husband Matt, T.J. Carbone, Jeffrey Carbone, Nathan Carbone and Leah Carbone; four great-grandchildren; Ellery Eisenhauer, Emma Eisenhauer, Abigail Martel and Benjamin Martel; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Doris P. Carbone; three sisters; Theresa Carbone, Rita Carbone and Marion Bishop; a brother William Carbone and his grandson Joshua Carbone.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St., Bernard’s Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Msgr. Daniel O. Lamothe will be the celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene on Friday afternoon from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The William Marconi Italian Society will conduct a prayer service at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m.
