Mildred E. Davis
April 29, 1920 – June 11, 2018
Heaven gained an angel when Mildred (Millee) E. Davis passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, NH at the age of 98.
Her parents, Charles and Rose (Dennison) Small proudly welcomed their daughter into the world on April 29, 1920 in Machiasport, Maine.
Millee spent most of the first 40 years of her life in Lubec, Maine, moving to Belfast, Maine in 1960. She relocated to Keene, NH in 1965 where she worked for MPB Corporation for over 17 years. She retired in 1982 enjoying what she loved most, which was working in her flower gardens and spending quality time with her family members. She moved to 16 Young Court in North Swanzey with her daughter in 2003, where she remained until her move to Maplewood Nursing Home 10 months ago. Her two daughters live close and shared in her care.
Over the years, Millee enjoyed gardening and creating beautiful floral landscapes around her home. She also enjoyed painting, drawing, crafts, puzzles, making costume jewelry, and dancing. Her greatest joy in life was her time spent socializing with friends and creating many special memories with her family.
During her 14 years with her daughter, she spent 5 days a week at the Castle Center Adult Day Care in Keene. Here she enjoyed many hours of activities and fun times. These included arts, crafts, music, dancing, cookouts, participating in plays and many other fun things. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff for caring and loving Millee for so many years. They certainly made her years of dealing with dementia so much more enjoyable.
We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff at Maplewood Nursing Home for providing excellent care and love to our dear mother for the past 10 months, and also to Hospice at HCS for stepping in on occasion to assist in our mother’s care for the past year.
She always told her family that she was going to live to be a 100 and she almost made it. 98 years is really quite an accomplishment. Their lives will not be the same without her wit, stubbornness, presence, love and most of all her beautiful smile.
Millee will be missed by many including her children, Donna Conway of North Swanzey, Charlotte Veysey and her husband Richard, of North Swanzey, Ralph McClellan and his wife Elaine of Vacaville, CA, John McClellan and his wife Susan of Weare, NH; a brother Horace Small of Texas; her grandsons, John McClellan and his wife Kris of Vacaville, CA, Timothy Tyler and his wife Laurie of West Swanzey, NH; a granddaughter Katie McClellan and her fiance, Chuck Coonce of Deering, NH; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Roy McClellan in 1986, her second husband, Lee Davis in 2001; a son, Bickford McClellan in 1959; granddaughters, Tracie McClellan in 2001 and Lorie Carrier in 2005; a grandson, Keith Curtis in 2008; a great-grandson, Sean McClellan in 1996; a great-granddaughter, Neve Tyler in 2016; a son-in-law, Ronald Conway in 2012; several siblings that the family have lost touch with over the years.
Per the family’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services at this time. There will be a celebration of her life later this summer at the home of her daughter to be announced later.
There will be a graveside service and burial later in Lubec, Maine in the family cemetary. Millee will be buried with her son Bickford, which was her wish for her final resting place.
