Nancy was born on October 31, 1937, in Winchendon, MA, the second of two daughters born to Raymond and Ethel (Hubbard) Lloyd. Nancy grew up in Peterborough, NH before attending and graduating from the University of New Hampshire where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education.
She met her husband to be, Fred, while working together as physical education teachers in the Lincoln, MA school system. As the story goes, they met at a school time lunch over a tuna fish sandwich and, despite her initial impressions, Fred was able to win her over. They were married on April 15, 1961, and bought their house in Carlisle, Massachusetts later that year. Nancy worked as a teacher for several more years, until the birth of her children. She then took some time off to focus on being a full -time wonderful and loving stay-at-home Mom for her son, Douglas and her daughter, Darcy. When the kids were a bit older, she had an opportunity to work for the Town of Carlisle, briefly as a crossing guard, and then as the first-ever female officer for the Police Department. She finished first in her police academy class and, ultimately, rose to the rank of Inspector over her 25-year career in law enforcement.
Nancy enjoyed playing cards and other games with her family, working on home improvement projects, including landscaping and gardening, not only at their home in Carlisle, but also at their cottage in Francestown, NH, and then, later, at their oceanside Condo in York, Maine, where she especially loved tending to the beautiful sea roses. She especially loved spending time in York, by the ocean, surrounded by their wonderful friends at Joseph’s Way. Nancy was the center and heart of the family, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her children, and later her grandchildren, especially around the Holidays, and especially Christmas, when she relished finding the most perfect gifts for everyone, serving home cooked meals, and spoiling everyone with sweet treats and baked goods.
Nancy’s love, kindness, and strength will be greatly missed by all, including her husband of 64 years, Fred; her children Douglas and his wife, Karen; her daughter Darcy; her grandchildren Tyler, his wife, Sarah and great-granddaughter, Annie; and Brodie, her husband, Dan and great granddaughter, Auden. Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Barbara (Lloyd) Greer and her husband Wade Greer.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Covenant Living, who cared for Nancy over the past four years.
Burial will be in York, Maine at a future date to be determined. A Celebration of Life is planned at Covenant Living, 95 Wyman Road, Keene, NH, on Saturday, July 25th from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
