P. Curtis “Curt” Hiebert, 65, of Swanzey, formerly of Keene, died Monday evening, February 16, 2015, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, following a sudden period of declining health.
Curt was born on November 30, 1949, in Stuttgart, Germany, the son of Clarance Noble and Doris Fern (Fast) Hiebert. His parents were in Germany helping to rebuild the community after the war. They returned to the US while Curt was a young child and he grew up in New Jersey, graduating from Plainfield High School in 1968. He was a 1972 graduate of Dartmouth College.
Carrying on the desire to help others, Curt was involved with Public Housing for over 30 years. He moved to Keene in 1987, when he accepted a position with the Keene Housing Authority. He worked for them until his retirement in January of 2012. At that time, had been the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director for 25 years. Upon his retirement, he closed a letter of Thanks to the Keene community with the words: “Keep your Faith, Keep your Cool and Keep your Dignity”.
On May 26, 2012, he found love again, and married Sharon Guest in a ceremony held in Johnsonburg, NJ, at the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Camp where they originally met and worked as teenagers.
He was the Past President of the Public Housing Authority Directors association ( PHADA ), he was involved with the Moving to Work Agency, and was a part of the New Hampshire Housing authorities Corporation.
In younger years, Curt thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and exploring. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, and as his health no longer allowed the exploration of the wild, his motorcycle allowed him to explore the open road.
He is survived by his wife, of nearly 3 years: Sharon G. Hiebert of Swanzey; two children: Johanna Rose Hiebert of Keene and Peter Cole Hiebert of Keene; their mother: Ellen Wishart of Keene; and his two brothers and sisters in law: Brian Hiebert and his wife Joyce of Vermont and Georgia and Bill Hiebert and his wife Jan of Missouri.
In keeping with Curt’s wishes, there will not be any public calling hours or a public service.
In lieu of flowers, Curt had requested memorial donations be made, in his name, to the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund ( www.communityloanfund.org), 7 Wall Street, Concord, NH 03301.
Fletcher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, (www.fletcherfuneralhome.com) 33 Marlboro St, Keene has been entrusted with the arrangements.
