Peter "Pete" Bissell, a lifelong resident and devoted member of the Surry, New Hampshire community, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of a life dedicated to family, friendship, service, and the passions he cherished.
Pete made Surry his home throughout his adult life and became a cornerstone of the community he loved. He served the town for many years as a member of the Surry Planning Board and gave countless hours of leadership and mentorship to scouting, serving in numerous roles within the Surry Boy Scouts, the Monadnock District, and the Order of the Arrow.
For over 40 years, Pete was a proud and beloved member of the Surry Players Theater Group, where he helped build the traditions, spirit, and sense of family that continue to define the organization today. Through his performances, dedication behind the scenes, quick wit, and unwavering friendship, Pete left an unforgettable mark on generations of fellow actors, volunteers, and audiences. Though his final curtain call has come, his presence and influence will forever remain a part of the stage he loved.
Professionally, Pete was employed by Markem Corporation for 35 years. Following his retirement, he pursued a new chapter by establishing his own business, Quality System Design, a septic design company that he operated for more than two decades before retiring.
Outside of his many commitments, Pete embraced life with enthusiasm. He was a dedicated fan and longtime season ticket holder of the New England Patriots for 25 years. He enjoyed local stock car racing, particularly asphalt modifieds, and was a passionate classic car enthusiast who recently completed the restoration of his cherished 1966 Chevrolet K10 pickup. Pete also found great joy in the outdoors as an avid camper and hiker, earning membership in the New Hampshire 4,000 Footer Club and completing a thru-hike of the Vermont Long Trail.
Pete's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his sons, Todd Bissell and his wife Deborah of Keene, and Jeffrey Bissell and his wife Maria of Chesterfield; his four grandchildren, Samantha Awalt of Lakewood, Colorado, Oriana Belmore of West Swanzey, Jacob Bissell of Riverview, Florida, and Teagan Bissell of Surry; his five great-grandchildren; and his brother, James Bissell and his wife Lauris of Munsonville.
Pete will be remembered for his generosity, humor, dedication to his community, and the many lives he touched through his service, friendship, and love of family. The memories he created and the example he set will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A graveside service will be held on July 2nd at 5:30 PM at Surry Village Cemetery, Village Rd, Surry, NH 03431, followed by a celebration of life at Surry Town Hall from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, 1 Village Rd, Surry, NH 03431. All are welcome to attend.
