She was born on June 2nd, 1924, in Newton, MA, the daughter of Fred H. and Mary Douglas Mills. Priscilla grew up in Fitzwilliam, NH and later moved to Keene.
Priscilla attended Keene Schools and graduated from Keene Teachers College. She later obtained her Masters in Education from Columbia University in New York. There, she met the love of her life, Irving “Mickey” McKane. After teaching high school in Brooklyn, NY for a brief period, Priscilla and Mickey purchased and operated the Stage Coach Gift and Antique shop on Rte 12 in Marlborough, NH from the 1950’s through the 1970’s. It is also where they raised their family. In the late 70’s, Priscilla was a substitute teacher at the Keene Junior High.
Priscilla and Mickey moved to Keene in 1980 where she worked for National Grange Mutual until she retired in 1991. Her beloved Mickey passed away that same year.
Priscilla was a humble but very talented pianist and vocalist, and once performed with an ensemble in Carnegie Hall in New York. Along with being a voracious reader, she was a skilled writer of poetry and also produced many volumes of her memories, thoughts and opinions. Priscilla also loved wood-carving, and for many years was rarely seen without being surrounded by piles of wood shavings. She relished the presence of family as well as her solitude.
Although dementia had eroded her memory and cognition in her later years, Priscilla’s warmth, joy and kindness to others never faded.
Survivors include, Morgan McKane and his wife, Sharon, Keith McKane and his wife, Tammy, of Keene, Jon McKane of Polson, MT.; her sister, Shirley (Mills) Lang of Troy; and her three nephews, Edward “Skip” Lang of Troy, Robert Lang of Canterbury and Gregory Lang of Troy. her nine grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Molly of Floyd, VA, Brett, of St. Petersburg, Ryan and Erin of Keene; Jessica of Londonderry, NH, Jason, stationed in Okinawa Japan, Tiffany of Keene, and her four great- grandchildren, Lilly, Brynna, Joelly and Zion.
A private family service will be held later this summer. Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Priscilla’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association at 5 Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 201, Bedford, NH 03110; or online at: www.alz.org.
