QMCM Master Chief ROBERT W. COLEMAN, 86, of Swanzey, died at his home Thursday evening following a period of failing health. He was born in West Pittston, PA on December 18, 1925, the son of Williard and Thelma (Pembridge) Coleman. After graduating from the West Pittston High School, where he lettered in basketball, he joined the US Navy to serve in World War II. Throughout his Naval career, he traveled three times around the world, attaining the rank of QMCM and teaching at the Officer's Candidate School in Newport, RI. After twenty years he retired to begin another long career with the US Post Office, first in Newark and Parsippany, NJ, moving to the Keene facility in the early 1970's where he retired in 1986. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Swanzey, the Gordon Bissell Post #4 American Legion in Keene, the USS Albany Association, and The Fleet Reserve. He was also a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Keene. Bob enjoyed motorcycling but the most important thing to him was his grandchildren whom he loved being with and videotaping their seemingly every move. Survivors include: Two sons: Brian A. Coleman and his wife Nancy H. of Swanzey and Richard J. Coleman and his wife Rene of Kea'au, Hawaii; a sister Sara (Sally) St. John and her husband Frank of Largo FL., Joyce Coleman his sister-in-law of Parsippany, NJ, five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Kenneth J. Coleman who died this past June, and his former wife, Ruth (Junkins) Kasprak, with whom he remained a life-long friend. Calling hours for Mr. Coleman will be held Tuesday evening, November 13, 2012, from 6 to 7pm at the First Congregational Church, Route #32, Swanzey Center. Friends are invited. A full military service will be held following the calling hours, at 7pm. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made in memory of Mr. Coleman to: the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Fund, at the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 10041, Swanzey, NH. 03446. The Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene is in charge of the arrangements.
