He was born in Montague, MA, June 12, 1941, the son of Ernest Lorenzo Kenney and Sarah Jane (Sinclair) Woodruff.
He attended schools in Athol, Mass., Butler County Community College in El Dorado, KS, Friends University, Wichita, KS, and Highland University in Rio Rancho, NM. He received Bachelor Degrees in Criminal Justice, Religion, and Special Education. He was on the National Deans Honor Roll and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa.
He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1961 until 1966.
Mr. Kenney worked as a machinist and as a Corrections Officer for the State of Missouri, the State of Kansas, and the State of New Mexico. He also worked as a teacher of Special Education in Albuquerque, NM. He was a Hospice Minister and also coached Special Olympics in Kansas and New Mexico. He retired from teaching in New Mexico on October 31, 2009.
Mr. Kenney is registered with the SECC as a Native American, Cherokee Tribe.
He resided in Massachusetts, Germany, Okinawa, California, Kansas, Missouri and New Mexico, before moving to Keene four years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Guanda Lee (Hull) Kenney, of Keene; daughters, Margo Best and her husband, Peter, of Spofford, NH, Kristal Porter and her husband, Richard Porter, Jr. of Fitzwilliam, NH, Teri Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Eric Kenney of Orange, MA, Jason Kenney and his wife, Misty, of Wichita, KS; sisters, Joni Fesler and her husband, Roger, of Las Cruses, NM, Margo Moore of Wichita; an aunt, Florence Gelinas of Orange, MA; grandchildren, Isaac Gabriel Sanchez who resides at Mr. Kenney’s home, Lindsay Barker-Damon, Joey Adams, Jr., Sandra Bergeron, Lisa Martin, Robert Martin, E.J. Kenney, Macie Paxton, Bailey Kenney, Addison Kenney, James Stewart, Haylee Stewart; nine step-grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased his parents, a daughter, Bobbie Sue Kenney; mother-in-law, Mary Marceil (Butterworth) Hull; father-in-law, Melvin Adam Hull, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Alan Hull and Dennis Bettin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28th at 1:00 PM in the Life Journey Church, 570 Park Avenue, Keene, NH. There are no formal calling hours.
