The skilled hands and creative mind of Robert Taylor 88, longtime resident of Alstead, NH and owner of Taylor’s Welding Service, will be greatly missed by his passing on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Jack Bryne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care, following a brief illness.
His parents, Richard and Anne (Mayron) Taylor welcomed their son into the world on February 4, 1937, in Hoboken, NJ. He grew up in Oakland, NJ and was a graduate of Butler High School. He later raised his family in Ocean Beach, NJ.
He attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, Fairleigh Dickerson University in Teaneck, NJ and the University of Miami.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Company B First Airborne Battle Group 506 Infantry. Following his active duty with the Army, he transferred to the Army Reserves where he served more than three decades with the 11th Special Forces Group, retiring on February 14, 1997, at the rank of Sergeant Major.
As owner of Taylor’s Welding Service in Alstead, he and his son James worked on many projects, big and small, and created much-loved metal sculptures which can be found throughout Chesire County and country wide as well. For over twenty years, Robert displayed his artwork at the annual Art Walk in the Park in Keene for many to be able to enjoy his creativity and perhaps bring home one of these treasures. He continued to be a presence during his retirement years, often being found sitting in his chair, greeting shop customers and providing loving supervision, forever "the boss".
He was a member of the Special Forces Association and the Walpole Artisans Cooperative.
He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed making maple syrup with family at his sugar shack. Robert was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Alstead Center, serving as moderator and bell ringer for many years.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his children, James R. Taylor of Alstead, Richard J. Taylor of Weddington, NC, Donna D. Trudelle and her husband Bob of Keene; his grandchildren, Aiden Taylor, Avery Taylor, Heather Bogart, Joseph King, Matt Trudelle, Sarah Trudelle, Julie Trudelle; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Taylor of Jackson, NJ, Gilbert Taylor of Brick, NJ; sisters, Anne McCully of Callao MO, Joyce Eberlin of PA; many nephews and nieces including Deborah Cordonnier of Princeton, NJ; and the many customers and friends he made over the years at his shop and with his artistic creations. A brother, Raymond Taylor, predeceased him.
A graveside service with military honors in the Alstead Center Cemetery will be held privately by the family.
All will be invited to a celebration of Robert’s life this summer at the First Congregational Church of Alstead at a date and time to be announced.
