Robert celebrated his 72nd birthday on July 17, 2023, and was received into the Catholic Church over twenty years ago. For the past several years, he lived happily under the loving care of Brad and Amanda Grinstead, in their home in Richmond, NH. He enjoyed going to Mass with the Grinsteads and their children and was very much a part of the Grinstead family.
Robert was always a happy and funny fellow, like a child. He liked to joke with people and when greeting someone he was famous for saying, “Tie your shoe.” Then, when the person would look down at his tied shoe, Robert would laugh and say, “Ha, Ha. Gotcha!” Or he would say, “Your shirt is ripped,” and go through the same routine. Robert was fond of feeding the animals on the Grinstead property; dogs, cats, ducks, sheep, lambs, goats, pigs. He liked all of them.
Robert recently retired from his job as a grocery bagger at Market Basket in Swanzey, NH, where his wit was enjoyed by his managers and co-workers. He liked to bowl with his brother, Kenny, and attend birthday parties or any other gathering of people. Robert worked on jigsaw puzzles and was very good at putting the pieces together. He recently started painting with water color paints and created some nice, original paintings. He had an underlying heart condition but remained active and relatively healthy until the end. Many people and families, in the area, had the privilege of sharing their lives and or homes with Robert over the years. He was greatly loved and will certainly be dearly missed.
Calling hours will take place at the Grinstead home, at 695 Fitzwilliam Road in Richmond, NH, Monday evening, July 24, from 5:30-8:30 pm. Additional parking is available nearby on Old Troy Road.
A Requiem Mass will be offered by Rev. Fr. Jose Zucchi, of The Institute of the Good Shepherd on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church, in Winchester, NH, followed by the burial at the Wilder family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Swanzey, NH.
A bereavement meal will take place at the Richmond, NH, Pavilion, behind the Richmond Fire Station, at the intersection of Routes 32 and 119. If the weather is inclement, the meal will be at Saint Benedict Center’s St. Joseph Hall, 95 Fay Martin Road, Richmond.
Robert is survived by his brothers; David, Glen, Ronald and Kenny, and his sister, Rosalie. Preceding him in death, were his parents, Raymond and Helen Wilder, of Vermont, his grandparents, and an older brother, Loren. May they rest in Peace.
As Christians, we know that it is a wholesome thing to pray for and bury the dead. A special thanks to the management of Foley Funeral Home, and Robert’s friends and family who have made it possible to provide him with a Catholic funeral Mass and burial.
