

She was born May 14, 1923, in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Franklin and Helen (Zehner) Lore. After graduating from Tamaqua High School in 1941, she worked in Philadelphia for AT&T and later for The Atlas Powder Company during WWII. On June 29, 1946, she married the love of her life, William Nesgoda. They were married for 43 years until his death in 1990.
In 1964, Roberta began her 26 year career at Marian Catholic High School Cafeteria in Hometown, PA. Roberta loved the students she served and had a special rapport with each and every one of them. She always said it was important to show kids humor. Roberta loved to cook and some of her specialties included halupki, spaghetti and meatballs, apple tarts, and pineapple upside down cake. She also loved to sing and was a very accomplished soprano, staring in many minstrel shows for the Catholic Women Education Association in Tamaqua. At the Woodward Home she was revered for her rendition of “God Bless America”. Roberta was an avid Yankee fan and attended many games in NY and CA. She also attended most basketball games (boys and girls) at Marian High School.
Roberta also loved parades especially the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia on New Year’s Day.
Family was very important to Roberta. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie and her husband E. Thomas Dowling of Alstead, NH; her son, Michael Nesgoda of Treichlers, PA; her sister, Josephine Havrilko of Hometown, PA; five grandchildren: Jennifer Dowling of Brooklyn, NY; Suzanne Dowling Harris and her husband Coleman of Zebulon, NC; Ryan Nesgoda of Tamaqua, PA, Stephen Nesgoda, and Michael Nesgoda, of Summit Hill, PA, and two great-grandsons: Graham and Mason Harris of Zebulon, NC.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held in September at Saint Jerome Church, Tamaqua, PA, date and time to be announced later. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to The Woodward Home “Helping Hands Grant Fund”, 194-202 Court St, Keene, NH 03431
