Her parents, Forrest and Shirley (Barnard) Lafoe welcomed their daughter into the world on June 20, 1949, in Keene, where she was raised by her mother and her grandparents, Ira E. and Mildred (Eno) Barnard. Her childhood home on Brown Street became the very home she raised her family and later retired in.
Sheila worked for many years with the SAU 29 School District here in Keene. She was dedicated to her job, working as both a lunch lady and later as a custodian at the Keene Junior High School. She loved interacting with the students and staff, and was always there to lend an ear, offer advice, or share a laugh.
She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and took great pride in caring for her lawn and her home. Her special memories include trips to the Maine seacoast with David and her children, holiday gatherings, Thanksgiving being her favorite, and time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by many, especially her children, Michael Conant and his partner, Joseph Jellie, of North Walpole, NH, Amanda Conant and Eric Conant both of Keene, her best friend and former husband David Conant of Keene. Her grandchildren, Jacob, Emma, Tayla, Hannah, Erika Lewis and Emmett Lewis: her great-grandchildren, Amanda and Ryder; her sisters-in-law, Kathie Coonrod of Fayetteville, SC and Marcia Conant of Troy, NH: her mother-in-law Lorraine (LaBrie) Conant, also of Troy, NH; and several cousins.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:30am at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene. A prayer service will follow at 11:30am at the funeral home followed by committal prayers in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene.
For those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Conant’s memory to the NH SPCA (nhspca.org/donate), PO Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.
