Shirley Blood Metivier, 85, of Keene, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March, 29th, 2024. She was born in Keene, NH on December 1st, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Allie C. Blood and Doris Hutchins Blood.
Shirley grew up in Keene and graduated from Keene High School where she met the love of her life Gerard Metivier. They were married July 25th, 1959.
Shirley was a loyal and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She made each and every one of her family and friends feel special and loved.When it came to being with her grandchildren she was all in, she played games, crawled into tents, made their favorite foods, attended every one of their sports and theatrical events. She was thrilled to become a great grandmother and adored her great granddaughter Sylvia.
Shirley enjoyed spending time out on the boat with her husband fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee; although sometimes she held a fishpole, most of the time it was a good book. They also enjoyed going to auctions, yard sales and flea markets together. She spent many summers on vacation with her family in York, Maine enjoying the sun, beach and of course lobster. She also loved spending time at Spofford Lake where she would sit on the porch, read her book and enjoy looking out at the lake.
She was an avid tennis and golf fan; she would sit in front of the TV and cheer on her favorites. She loved bingo and the occasional casino trip with friends. There were also plenty of fun card games with family and friends! She had a gift of kindness and laughter that she passed on to others.
Shirley was devoted to the Catholic church. She enjoyed being a Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernard Church in Keene.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband Gerard Metivier; Her daughters and their spouses: Cherie and Bill Hutwelker; Deb Metivier and Chris Wamser; her grandchildren: Marcy Moreau and her husband Scott Moreau; Val Driscoll and their partner Rebekah Dutkiewicz; Sean Driscoll; Tyler Cote and his wife Lauren Yanko; Elyse Cote; and great grandchild, Sylvia Curtis; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Allie C. Blood and Doris Hutchins Blood; and her siblings and their spouses: Arlene Moley and her husband George Moley, Margaret Patsfield and her husband Pat Patsfield, Richard Blood and his wife Marilyn Blood.
A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 8th at St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH with burial immediately following at the Monadnock View Cemetery on Park Ave in Keene. Details on the celebration of life will be announced at the end of Mass.
