Susan was born on August 3, 1948, in Worcester, MA, to Charles A. and Martha B. (Hall) Hill. She was a proud graduate of Mount Holyoke College, earning her Bachelor of Arts in 1970, and later received her master's degree in 1983 from the University of Alabama.
In 1984 Susan moved to Keene and began her career as a speech-language pathologist, working with students in the Keene Public Schools until her sons had grown. She then continued her career at Cheshire Medical Center. In 2003 she moved to Florida with her husband John and was employed by Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital. Upon returning to Keene, Susan continued working as a speech therapist with Genesis Eldercare.
Susan married John McGinnis III on February 19, 1994, and they shared 31 wonderful years together. From a very young age, Susan loved to travel, and throughout her life she visited all 50 states and 22 countries across Europe and North, Central and South America. She and John took over 30 major trips. Besides much travel in retirement, Susan also enjoyed a fulfilling and active life in Keene. She loved going for walks, spending time with friends and particularly enjoyed the social gatherings and camaraderie in her Woodgate Views neighborhood. Susan was an avid reader who found great joy and connection through her participation in book clubs.
A much-loved member of the Keene community, Sue will be remembered by all as kind, friendly, helpful, caring, honest, sincere and intelligent. She loved her husband John, her sons Matthew and David, and her sister and brother and their families with all her heart and grew to love John's children and their families as well. She cherished her family and found joy in planning meaningful experiences for them, from family trips to holiday celebrations and special gatherings.
Susan will be greatly missed by her husband of 31 years, John McGinnis; her children, Matthew W. Schroeder and significant other Amanda Aube of South Burlington, VT, David H.
