Born in Keene, NH in 1918, she married Frances Skiddy von Stade in 1939 at the Dublin Lake Club and later became the mother of three children: Christopher, William (deceased) and Susan.
For many years Tudie, Skiddy and their children made their home in Cambridge (MA) where Skiddy worked in senior administration and as a Dean at Harvard University. After Skiddy retired from Harvard, the family moved to Dublin (NH) and wintered in Aiken (SC). Tudie and Skiddy often traveled abroad, visiting Europe and the Far East as well as many venues closer to home.
Family and friends remember Tudie as always interested in the lives of the ones she loved as well as the ones she happened to meet. Tudie was blessed with a curious mind--a voracious reader, she was fascinated with geopolitics and national politics, as well as the goings on in her own backyard. Over the years she volunteered tirelessly for the American Red Cross; several hospitals in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and South Carolina; The Museum of Science, Boston; a variety of athletic/sports associations and served for many years as the president of the Dublin Riding and Walking Club.
Tudie excelled at sports--riding, tennis and shooting but especially golf--besides her family and friends, golf was her lifelong love. Friends and family remember Tudie for her indomitable spirit, her energy and dynamism (well into her later years) and her enthusiastic love of sport. As her husband Skiddy often remarked "On any playing field she is grace in motion".
Tudie is survived by her eldest son, Christopher Russell von Stade and her daughter, Susan von Stade, her daughters-in-law; Star von Stade and Babette von Stade and her step-grandchildren; Lisa Sheehan, Lucas Sheehan and his wife Gabriela Sheehan. She is predeceased by her husband Francis Skiddy von Stade, son William Fessenden von Stade and her own three siblings.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 12:30 PM in the Dublin Community Church, Route 101, Dublin, NH. Rev. Michael Scott will officiate.
The family requests any memorial donations be sent to the Dublin Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1036, Dublin, NH 03444.
Family and friends wish to thank the helping angels at Rivermead who have made Tudie's last 15 years in their tender care so joyful and filled with love. Also special thanks to Hospice, Shirley Hall and Stacy Fournier for their special attentions to Mum.
The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
