
She was born in Keene, NH, September 8, 1928, the daughter of Leverett and Anna (Brown) Rolf.
Mrs. Howland worked for thirty years as a machinist with the Book Press in Brattleboro, VT.
She was a longtime member of the Winchester Women’s Club; the Minatt-Rivers American Legion Post 44 Auxiliary of Winchester, and a life member of the Winchester Grange. She enjoyed bowling, participating on a state champion bowling team; crafts; traveling; eating out, and country music, especially Alan Jackson. Family however, was her favorite pastime.
She is survived by a son, James A. Howland of Winchester; two grandchildren, Heidi Whitney and Peter J. Howland, both of Winchester; four great-grandchildren, David Whitney, Keana Walker, Nicholas Howland, all of Winchester, and Brody Howland of West Virginia; and the many friends she made while residing at Applewood, including her special friend, Stephanie Fusco, who along with many, helped make her time at Applewood an enjoyable and loving one. Her husband of 55 years, John H. Howland, Sr., died November 20, 2001. She was predeceased by two sons, Eugene Howland in 2011, and John H. Howland, Jr., who died at the age of eight. She was also predeceased by five sisters, Bernadette Campbell, Flosie Maynard, Irene Dominick, Edna Asland, and Myrtie Richardson.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00 AM in the Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond Road, Winchester, NH. Rev. Nancy Wood will officiate. Family and friends are welcome. There are no public calling hours.
The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
