

Services for Theron David Fosdick, CDR USN Ret., age 89, of Keene will be held this Sunday, September 27th, 2015, 1:30 PM at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead Hwy, Swanzey, NH 03446. He died peacefully with loving family at his side on September 6, 2015 at Langdon Place of Keene.
He was born on October 18, 1925 in Winchester, NH, the son of George Raymond and Ida Mae (Kendrick) Fosdick. Theron joined the US Navy in June 1943 after graduating from Thayer High School. He entered the V-5 Naval Aviation Cadet program and received his wings several weeks after the end of World War II.
During the Korean War, Cdr. Fosdick flew attack fighters from the USS Antietam and earned an Air Medal and three gold stars in lieu of the second, third and fourth awards. He also earned a Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”.
He married Shirley Marie Sweeney on November 11, 1950 at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey.
Cdr. Fosdick served as a Flight Instructor at the Naval Air Basic Training Command in Pensacola, FL. He went to sea after that until he reported to the Recruiting Station in Pittsburgh, PA where he served as First Administrative Officer and then as Assistant Officer in Charge.
From January to July 1963 he attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA. Prior to reporting to Quantico, Cdr. Fosdick was an Air Officer aboard the USS Randolph, an anti-submarine aircraft carrier.
Cdr. Fosdick retired after 25 years of service and returned to New Hampshire with his wife and four children.
Theron enjoyed his family and hobbies such as fishing, woodworking, reading and coin collecting.
He will be remembered as “Foz” by his close family and friends. They describe him as a handsome and charming man. He had is own sense of humor and made everyone smile. He was at sea much of the time, but loved his family dearly.
Theron is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (Sweeney) Fosdick, daughter Marcia Lee and Kevin Breen, Templeton, MA; daughter Penny Ann and Douglas Sidilau, Manchester, NH; son David Brian and Lisa Fosdick, Casco, ME; and daughter Jean Marie Fosdick, Merrimack, NH; 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.
Fletcher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH 03431 have been entrusted with the arrangements.
