Virginia was born in Boston, MA on March 17, 1930 and grew up in Boston, attending Dorchester High School for Girls and The Chandler Business School in Boston. She married and moved to Rochester, NY in 1953 and raised her family in Henrietta, NY. She then moved south to Alabama with her husband Stan. They lived in Mobile, AL and later bought what they affectionately called “The Shack” on Lake Martin. Many happy years were spent renovating their property, making friends and hosting family gatherings. Everyone has fond memories of boating, swimming and fishing at their lake home.
In the 90s, Virginia helped develop and played an integral role in establishing Lake Watch of Lake Martin, AL. This organization remains devoted to the protection of what has become the cleanest lake in Alabama. She also volunteered at the Alexander City, AL Public Library, was a member of the local Red Hat Society and established many valued friendships. She spent the last nine years in Keene, NH happily surrounded by family and new friends. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and playing cards and board games. She relished beating others, especially her son-in-law Joe, at cribbage and scrabble. She was known and loved for her sly wit, sass, and for her stories.
Services for Virginia will be private.
For those who wish, donations may be made in her memory to Lake Watch of Lake Martin, P.O. Box 72, Alexander City, AL 35011.
