She was born on June 20, 1919 in Westmoreland, the daughter of Adam and Alice (Sullivan) Goodrum. She was a graduate of Keene High School, Class of 1937.
From 1940 to 1943 Virginia was employed by Faulkner and Colony Manufacturing Company in Keene as a stenographer.
In 1943 Virginia began her service in the Army of the United States as a WAC in Basic Training during World War II. She was assigned as a General Clerk in Fort Banks, Boston, MA before becoming a stenographer for Eisenhower Headquarters staff and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany.
In 2001 Virginia married Herbert Remington Benedict. Together they enjoyed traveling on land and sea.
Virginia leaves behind three nephews: Robert Lewis of Cheyenne, WY, Jerry Lewis of Lynchburg, VA, and John Goodrum of Malta; a niece: Alice Goodrum of Fort Bragg, CA; and a brother-in-law: David Bailey of Walpole, NH.
She is predeceased by her husbands: Herbert Benedict and Earl Baker; and siblings: Lee Goodrum, Clyde Goodrum, Adam Goodrum, Robert Goodrum, Alda Goodrum, and Laura Bailey.
Per Virginia’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at North Cemetery, Great Meadow Ferry Road, Westmoreland, NH.
