He was born June 19, 1939 in Fitchburg, MA. He went on to graduate from the School of Industrial Arts and attended Pratt Institute. He proudly served our Nation as a member of the United States Air Force. On September 21, 1963 he married the love of his life: Lucille Saracco.
Wayne lived on Long Island with his family and worked in New York City as a creative director for Diener/Hauser/Bates Advertising Agency in the movie industry. He enjoyed the world of art in all its forms not only appreciating it but creating it. He instilled that love of art in his children and grandchildren. In his time away from work he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching movies, gardening and playing chess. Aside from his beloved family, two of his greatest passions were music and animals.
Vacationing on Pearly Pond convinced him to retire with his wife to the quiet hills of Westmoreland. Here he was able to enjoy the beautiful countryside and work as a driver for the Friendly Bus of Keene. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the many people on his route and they looked forward to seeing him and being greeted by his warm smile.
He is survived by his loving wife: Lucille of Westmoreland, his son: Michael Salo and his wife Sarah of Grantham, NH, his daughter: Jennifer Salo-Two-Axe of Valatie, NY, three grandchildren: Gabriella, Sophia and Olivia, his brother: Leonard Strang, two sisters: Janice Hartley and Elizabeth Walsh and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by his beloved Aunt and Uncle, who raised him from a very early age: Vera and Hans Radke.
Wayne was a quiet man who was loved by many. Nicknamed “The Bear” by co-workers in NYC, he could be both ferocious when protecting his family and friends or gentle when they needed advice or someone to talk to. He was quick to smile, always warming those around him with his infectious laugh. He was extremely talented and generous. Wayne was a loving husband, devoted father and wonderful grandfather. He will forever be missed.
A Celebration of his life will be held at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 2 to 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Rd, Swanzey, NH. 03446 or to the Applewood Rehabilitation Center, Activity Fund, 8 Snow Road, Winchester, NH. 03470.
