He was born in Belchertown, MA on December 4, 1932 the son of Wilfred H. Palmer and Catherine E. (Sullivan) Palmer.
Wilfred served honorably with the US Army during the Korean War and later became a member of the US Marine Corp. Reserves.
Wilfred was a Special Massachusetts State Trooper where he served for twenty years until his retirement in 1990.
He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed making items for his family and friends. He was a former active member of the 4H in Massachusetts. He was a parishioner at the former Sacred Heart Church in Marlborough, NH where he lived from 1993 to 2015 when he moved to Keene.
Wilfred leaves his wife of sixty-three years, Barbara L. (Gunn) Palmer of Keene; six children; Katheryn Lang and her husband Randy of Chicopee, MA, William Palmer and his wife Deborah, Debra Palmer and Gary Holmes, Diane Dinelle and her husband David, and Richard Palmer all of Palmer, MA and Cheryl Channell. and her husband Jonathan with whom he lived in Keene, NH. He leaves fourteen grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sister-in-law Linda Palmer; his nieces and nephews; Allyson and Jay English of Milton, MA, Suzanne and Michael Jackson of Braintree, MA, and David and Sarah Palmer of Canton, MA and several other nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his twin brother Howard R. Palmer in 2000.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on Monday, September 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service and time for reflections will be held at 6:30 p.m.
A memorial service will also be held at the Beers and Story Funeral Home, 1475 North Main Street, Palmer, MA on Tuesday, September 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Private burial at St. Thomas Cemetery, Palmer, MA will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the
