Winnifred H. Seaver

Winnifred (Hansen) Seaver of Keene, NH, and a former longtime resident of Marlborough, NH, passed away at the Keene Center Genesis with family by her side, on May 22, 2016, at the age of 97.
She was married to the late Charles H. Seaver, Sr., whom she met while student teaching in Marlborough, and with whom she shared 54 years of marriage at the time of his death in 1995. In the early 90’s, the couple established their home in Florida and she returned to Keene in 1998.
Born in Maple Rapids, Michigan on May 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Florence (Estes) and Rev. Christian B. Hansen. As a Methodist minister’s daughter, the family moved to several communities during her youth to include Sunapee, Franklin, and Lebanon, New Hampshire, as well as, Franklin, Massachusetts.
She entered Northfield School for girls with the class of 1937, and then enrolled at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, where she graduated with the class of 1941, majoring in French, Latin and English.
After raising a family of five children, Mrs. Seaver returned to teaching; first in the late 50’s at the Peterborough High School, and then at Marlborough High School, retiring in the mid 70’s. She was a longtime member of the Federated Church of Marlborough and its’ Ladies Circle. She held memberships in the Retired Teachers Association, the Lodge of Rebecca’s, and the Puritan Chapter #54 of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by five children, Charles H. Seaver, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Keene, Karen J. Joslin of Campton, NH, Ingrid Bayliss and her husband, Walter Bayliss, Jr. of Lowell, MA, Sally Downing and her husband, Rev. Guy Downing, of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Rev. Richard C. Seaver and Robert Brandt, of St. Paul, MN; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, William R. Joslin; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothea and Bernard Cross of Swampscott, MA.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on June 18th at 11:00AM in the Federated Church of Marlborough, 16 Pleasant Street, Marlborough. Private burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Chesham, NH. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for those who wish, that donations be made in Mrs. Seaver’s memory to the Federated Church of Marlborough, 16 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, NH, 03455; or to the Resident’s Activity Fund at the Keene Center Genesis, 677 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.
The Fletcher Funeral Home of Keene, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
