
"August (Augie) Boto passed away on January 3, 2025 at age 97. He was born February 24, 1927 in Gary, Indiana, the last of 12 children of European immigrants, Luis and Julia Bota. Augie is a Veteran of WWII having enlisted in the Navy at age 17. After service he attended Tulane University where he was awarded a football scholarship. Augie was the first in his family to graduate from college. As a transferring athlete from Tulane, he received his BS degree from Missouri State and continued his Masters work at the University of Missouri. He coached High School Football as head coach in Missouri and Indiana. He also coached college football at the University of California Riverside campus. Besides coaching for 10 years, he was a Life Insurance and Employee Benefits Consultant and Entrepreneur for all of his business life until he officially retired at age 92 in early 2019. Augie and his family have been active Christians and wherever they lived they immediately became active church members. During his 50 years in Dallas, he was a member and Deacon at FBC Dallas, while the renowned W.A. Criswell was Pastor. While living in Austin from 2012-2024, he was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. Augie, or “Pop” as he was affectionately known by his family, was a man of deep faith, passion and joy. The gospel of Jesus Christ was the center of his life.
Augie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Medearis Boto and his son Chuck Boto as well as his second loving wife, Pat King. He is survived by his other two children, son D. August Boto and his wife Cindy Boto. Daughter, Mara Boto Sears and her husband Jack Sears. Daughter in law, Lydia Boto. Augie is survived as well by his 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He is deeply loved by all and the impact of his faith will live on for generations."
A visitation for August will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Keller's Old Town Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 220 Keller Parkway, Keller, TX 76248. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 11am to 12pm at First Baptist Church Keller (225 Keller Pkwy, Keller, TX 76248).
