Barbara Carol Kennedy, age 86, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. She was born December 14, 1937 in Orr, Oklahoma. She grew up in rural Oklahoma with her sister, Judy, and four little brothers, Dick, Sam, Terry, and Bill.
She had a beautiful voice and sang in church from a young age and then throughout her life. She even recorded a CD of Christian songs.
Barbara (née Patty) married John in 1959 in Ardmore, OK. They had three daughters, Patty, Jane, and Elizabeth.
Barbara was smart, creative, and funny. She was a member of Mensa. She loved to read and paint and play games, especially word games. She was a great cook and could always make something delicious out of whatever was on hand. She enjoyed traveling with her family on road trips. She led Bible study groups and helped with Vacation Bible School for several years.
Barbara and John were avid remodelers, and they were flipping houses long before there was a name for it. They took some questionable buildings and made them beautiful, doing all the work themselves. They traveled the world together, visiting Russia, Africa, Europe, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, just to name a few.
Barbara loved and cherished her family and would do anything for her girls. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids just as much.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Patty Kennedy, Jane Simon (Mark), Elizabeth Thompson (Mark), and Jill Turnbow; her grandchildren Scott Simon (Amanda) and Deanna Simon McGregor (Garrett), Nik (Tacey), Luke, and Levi (Virginia) Thompson; and her great-grandsons Aiden and Hunter Thompson, and Wyatt Simon. She is also survived by her brothers Samuel and William Patty.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Woodrow Dick Patty and Hazelle Pennington Patty, and by her sister, Judith Allen and brothers James (Dick) and Terry Patty.
Barbara will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, John.
