Anne, as she was known to most of her family and friends, was a graduate of Western Illinois University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and grew her love for literature and language arts. She held many roles in her career as a teacher, ad copy writer at a radio station, leasing and management agent, belly dancer and instructor and finally an animal control supervisor and educator. No matter her role she always enjoyed teaching others and learning new skills. She would read, listen to books and take classes whenever she had the chance. She was a lifelong learner. She enjoyed music of all types, art and doing crafts. Anne loved to cook and bake and frequently made delicious dishes for her family. Many friends remember her wonderful cheesecakes, pies and Texas sheet cake. She was also known to friends and family for the beautiful jewelry she created and gifted to many.
Anne enjoyed her family immensely. She and her husband Steven L Thomason were married September 2, 1978 with their mutual 4 children participating in the wedding, agreeing to become a family. Her two children, Alex Evan Hingstrum and Gwynne Elizabeth Turpen, joined her family with her two step-daughters, Trisha Lynn Thomason and Heather Lee Knapp. Anne and Steve did many things together including starting a couple of businesses, camping, geocaching, working with Humane Societies and other animal organizations. They showed dogs, went to belly dancing events, worked to end animal abuse, taught dog training classes and so much more. In more recent years, they went to woodturning club meetings and conferences together. Family get-togethers were frequent and always filled with fun and joy. Anne also has four grandchildren, Summer Candace Lee Hilligas, Fox Holden Knapp, Honor Evelyn Iris Hingstrum and Savannah Juliette Turpen that she saw whenever she could. She also became a great grandmother in 2024 with the birth of Charlie Hilligas.
She is survived by her husband, four children, four grandchildren and by a host of loving extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her brothers, Bill Gonnam and Jim Gonnam.
