BONNY LOPEZ, of Watauga, TX, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2025. He will always be remembered as a loving, wild, and crazy guy—a father, brother, friend, colleague, and “Uncle Bonny” to all who knew and loved him.
He was born on April 23, 1937, in Robstown, TX. Bonny, along with his wife Mary—who preceded him in death—helped so many of their family members by providing shelter and always donating and helping whenever needed. With only a seventh-grade education, he went on to accomplish many things in life.
He served in the Army National Guard of Texas in his early 20s. His career path took him from migrant farm worker to band manager, to butcher, and ultimately to a long and successful career as a car salesman in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. He loved his Dallas Cowboys and collected Cowboy memorabilia. During his sales career, he won many incentive trips, including trips to Cancún and Florida, and he participated in the 1997 Corvette Specialists Seminars in Miami, Florida.
Bonny is survived by his son, Arthur Hernandez of Watauga, TX; grandson, Sergio Hernandez of Abilene, TX; granddaughter, Mercedes Hernandez of Lubbock, TX; one daughter and granddaughter; seven brothers and four sisters: brother Amado (Speedy) Gonzalez and wife Santos of Fort Worth, TX; brother Pedro (Pete) Gonzalez of Abilene, TX; sister Guadalupe (Lupe) DeLaTorre of Lubbock, TX; sister Otila (Tila) Martinez of Abilene, TX; sister Isabel (Chavela) Gonzales of Keller, TX; brother Frank (Pancho) Gonzalez and wife Cynthia of Hamby, TX; brother Dolores (Lolo) Gonzalez and wife Dolores (Lola) of Abilene, TX; brother Juan Manuel (Blackie) Gonzalez of Haltom City, TX; brother Macario (Mark) Gonzalez and wife Rita of Abilene, TX; sister Maria De La Luz (Mary Lou) Villanueva of San Antonio, TX; and brother Ruben Gonzalez and wife Socorro of Saginaw, TX. He is also survived by 26 nieces, 29 nephews, at least 48 grandnieces, and 37 grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eulogio and Otila Gonzalez; his wife, Mary Lopez; two sons; sister Santa Salinas; niece Edna Melendrez; and nephew David Lee Gonzalez.
