Carolyn Louise Randall, 81, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in the presence of her loving daughter, Judy Spurgeon, and son, Patrick Randall. Born on February 15, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of William and Louise Vila. She grew up in New Orleans, where her fondest childhood memories included her sweet dogs, playing outside with neighborhood friends, family dinners, listening to bedtime stories, and sharing joyful moments with her brothers and cousins. She also treasured her mother’s boundless affection, which shaped her nurturing spirit.
Carolyn was married to her beloved husband, Stewart Randall, for 59 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Early in their marriage, they traveled through Germany, Italy, England, and Switzerland during Stew’s Air Force service, creating wonderful memories of adventure and togetherness. In addition to SCUBA diving in Florida, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda with Stew, Carolyn held dear their many trips to Grand Isle, LA, where she loved relaxing, fishing, cooking and sharing great times with family and friends who joined at various times.
Carolyn’s hobbies included cooking delicious meals inspired by her New Orleans heritage, drawing and sketching with a creative touch, reading captivating books, watching movies, dancing, and learning from educational TV programs. She loved music, and she cherished songs like “Ave Maria” for its spiritual beauty, “Sweet Caroline” and “My Girl” for their relatable spirit, and “Tell it Like it Is” for its soulful New Orleans roots.
She earned her bachelor’s degree and MBA from Loyola University in New Orleans, graduating magna cum laude, and worked for many years as a gas control analyst for Louisiana Land and Exploration Company. At age 55, she pursued her calling to become a registered nurse, dedicating herself to serving others with compassion and empathy. Her proudest career accomplishments included her work in mental health nursing, for which she received a clinical award, reflecting her impact on those she cared for.
Carolyn was very proud of her children, Judy and Patrick, and her grandchildren, Ben, Gabe, David, and Dina, were the center of her world. Her favorite past-time was dancing with and singing to them when they were little.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Stew Randall, her parents, William and Louise Vila, and her brothers, William Jr. and George Vila. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Spurgeon (Brian), her son, Patrick Randall (Fanya), her grandchildren, Ben, Gabe, David, and Dina, nephews, Thomas, Robert, and Michael, and niece, Barbara, and several great-nephews and nieces. Her boundless love for her family and friends, her legacy of care, kindness, and joyful spirit, will be deeply missed.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas, on Monday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. Carolyn will then be inurned with her beloved Stew at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., reuniting them in eternal rest. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to Carolyn’s heart.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Kith and Kin group care home, members of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic community, and the wonderful Hospice team for their care and support during Carolyn’s final days.
