OBITUARY

Charles "Chuck" Andrew Thompson

February 22, 1944May 22, 2020

On Friday, May 22, 2020, Charles (Chuck) Thompson, loving husband, proud father of three children, and “Papa” of seven grandchildren, was called home at the age of 76.

Chuck was born on February 22, 1944 in Houston, TX to Charles (president of Fairmaid Bread) and Travis Thompson. His childhood summers were spent at Ozark Boys Camp as a camper and then a counselor, where his love of Jesus Christ and his sporting abilities were cultivated. He attended the University of Texas, playing baseball for the Longhorns, and graduating in 1966. He proudly served his country in the Texas National Guard and was a trust banker and church business administrator for 36 years. He began his 49-year adventure with Susan Avera on November 28, 1970; they had planned to marry on the 27th but could not miss the Turkey Game! Hook ‘em Horns! They raised three wildly amazing children, Melissa, Mike, and Melinda.

Chuck was passionate about his family, baseball, and Longhorn Football, and he would ensure any person around had heard about all three. He was a gifted athlete and a tremendous coach of multiple sports teams, always enabling the best from his players and teaching them to love the game. He called baseball games (and some football) as an umpire for many years. He spent time searching for antique Fairmaid Bread signs, in honor of his dad. He loved God, grandkids, large meals, any ice cream, peanuts, projects with Susan, the Dallas Cowboys (a hardship), the Texas Rangers, yelling at TV referees, Hallmark movies, and the remote control.

Chuck is now reunited with his father, Charles Andrew Thompson, Sr., and his mother, Emma Travis Thompson Atkinson.

He is survived and profoundly missed by his wife, Susan, and his children and grandchildren, who’s life stories and current accomplishments he would quickly share with every stranger he met: daughter Melissa Gordon (husband David, children Austin, Brendan, and Ashley); son Mike Thompson (wife Casey, children Tatum and Tyler); daughter Melinda Lilly (husband Justin, children Luke and Seth); sister Gayle Phillips (husband Britton, children Debbie, Dianne, and Dena); mother-in-law Tommie Avera.

A celebration of Chuck’s amazing life will be held at Keller’s Old Town Funeral Home at a future date when covid restrictions are lifted.

In lieu of flowers, Chuck requested donations be made to Camp Ozark Foundation’s “Ozark for All”, allowing in-need children to attend Camp Ozark.

My deepest sympathies to the entire family. Looking through all the pictures, it is so apparent that he had a well lived life. So much love and fun. You were all blessed to have him in your lives - and he was equally blessed by all of you!
