Born June 1, 1961, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Larry and Sandy Powers, Chris built a life defined by the people in it. Over the years he called many places home, including Bedford and Keller, Texas and Weston, Florida, before settling in Orange Beach, Alabama, a place he considered his paradise.
Chris graduated from Oklahoma State University, where he met his wife Jane (in Pensacola on Spring Break, 1983) and went on to build a distinguished career in aviation sales and leadership that took him around the world. The companies changed: CF Airfreight, American Airlines, Swissport, Sabre Airline Solutions. But the constant was the friendships he made and the stories he couldn't wait to tell. He was equally at home in a boardroom with executives and on the couch breaking down the latest Bachelor drama.
To know Chris was to be greeted with a bear hug, the smell of Obsession cologne, and almost certainly a dirty Bombay Sapphire martini or a glass of red wine nearby. He had a gift for making every person in the room feel like the most important one in it, whether on the golf course, at the beach house he loved, cheering on his OSU Cowboys and Dallas Cowboys, or hosting a table full of people he'd somehow convinced to stay just a little longer. Some of his happiest moments were on the water: cruising around Ono Island, riding his jet ski before sunrise, spotting dolphins along the Gulf Coast, and sneaking in the occasional midday nap. When he loved something, a meal, a moment, a piece of news you'd just shared, he let you know it. Yeahhh baby!
Above everything, Chris understood that a life well lived is measured in the people you pour into it. He taught his children the importance of community, of showing up, of negotiating a helluva deal. He leaves behind a family who felt that love in every hug, every phone call, every "hi sissy" and "Johnny P!"
He is survived by his stepmother, Sharon Powers; his beloved wife, Jane Powers; his daughter, Sara Magar and her husband TJ Magar; his son, John Powers and his wife Devon Powers; his brothers, Matt Powers and Ben Powers; and his cherished granddaughter, Margo Magar, who brought him tremendous joy and pride (while teaching her how to scroll TikTok). He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandy Powers; his father, Larry Powers; and his brother, Lincoln Powers.
The stories he told, the friendships he built, and the memories he made will bring comfort and laughter for years to come. Damnnnn, did he live well.
A memorial service will be held June 27th at 2:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Chris' Life from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Keller's Old Town Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 220 Keller Pkwy, Keller, TX 76248.
