At the age of 94, Felix passed away peacefully after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Felix was born in Cebolla, New Mexico to Juan and Anita Archuleta Chavez. He was able to serve in multiple careers throughout his life, first in the U.S. Navy as soon as he turned 18 and then in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a member of the IBEW for 70 years, worked at Kennecott Copper Mine, Hotel Utah, and ran the Manor Shoppe until his retirement in 2000. Before his fight with Dementia, he was the most active 90-year-old you would ever meet, still working out daily, playing games with his grandkids, and making friends with everyone he met. Everyone who was around him could feel his strength and joy every day. He was always laughing and he loved football, bingo, weightlifting, learning about languages and reflexology, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Gerber-Chavez and his children, Laura Alldredge, Larry (Victoria) Chavez, Gary Chavez, Leisel Chavez, McKay (Natchelle) Gerber, Logan Gerber-Chavez (Josh Morones), 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Special thanks to the caregivers at Meadowview House in Keller, Texas, and Anchor of Hope Hospice for taking care of him for his last years.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (2016 Willis Lane, Keller, TX 76248) on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Garden in Bluffdale, Utah on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough T1D. With a grandson who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 18 months old, diabetes research was a cause that was very important to Felix.
