Hop Law Wong, of Dongguan China, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 2nd 2025 in Haslet, TX. She will always be remembered as a great mom, grandmother, sister to all that knew and loved her.
She was born on May 21st, 1933 in Dongguan, China to (Law Yoke Kuan and Mok Quan Dian) into a relatively large family with one older sister, 2 brothers and 3 younger sisters. Hop was born during the Japanese invasion and she was only able to attend some traditional Chinese schooling and during Hop’s early childhood, she witnessed much of the brutal atrocities from the Japanese occupation which impacted her and her family greatly. But that didn’t stop her from being a wonderful, kind, loving, and generous human being. Always giving her family priority over herself. She told us many stories of her childhood, one of them was that she would often go to look for her dad in the next section of town when her mom disciplined her and that she always received praise and kindness from her dad. She would always speak of how her dad was always very kind to everyone and she loved her dad very much. When Hop was in her mid-teens, she went out to Hong Kong to work in firework and garment factories with her closest cousin to help her family as her dad was getting sick. While she was working in the garment factory, she met her husband and they got married in beginning of 1959. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked alongside her husband in the garment factory to help support her family in Dongguan. During the hard times in China in the 60s, I remember she would take 2 large sacks of cloths, cooking oil, tools and other items she could carry to bring home with my sister strapped to her back and I would be grabbing the netting of the sack following her to take the train home during Chinese New Year. She was always very happy to see her family and this was her annual trip to see them. When she immigrated to New York in 1980, she continued to work to support my sister and I through college.
Hop is survived by her children, Tin Man in Texas and Linda in New Jersey; her grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly, Tiffany and Eric; her daughter-in-law Pamela and her son-in-law Andy; her sister Law Gui in Dongguan and Law Yau in New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chun Hoy Wong. The visitation will be held at 12 o’clock noon. Funeral Service will be held at 1 o’clock p.m. (Saturday 2/8/2025) at the Keller Old Town funeral home. Interment will follow at (I.O.O.F. Westlake cemetery by 170 and 114 junction).
