Greg was born on October 2, 1964, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up in West Fort Worth and attended Sagamore Hill Baptist Church, where he accepted the Lord as his Savior at the age of 14.
Greg attended Texas Wesleyan University while beginning his career at Lockheed Martin. As an embedded software engineer, he spent more than 30 years contributing to programs including the F-16 and F-35.
In the seventh grade, Greg met his future wife, Gina. Greg was a little slow to realize what everyone else could see, but eventually figured out that Gina was not giving up. They were married on June 11, 2004, and in their 22 years together, they shared a love that most people never experience in a lifetime.
After their marriage, Greg and Gina began attending Church at the Cross. When Cross and Crown Church was planted, Greg felt called by the Lord to join James Searcy and Jeff Repass in that new mission.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Hickman.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Gina Hickman; his son, Jason Hickman; his stepchildren, Bradly Cook wife Amanda, Nacol Cook wife Lauren, and Harley West wife Renee; and his beautiful and cherished grandchildren, Westin Cook, Alexandria West, and Olivia Cook.
He is also survived by his mother, Suzanne Maxwell, and stepfather, James Maxwell; his brother, Michael Mills, and wife, Cindy; his favorite aunt (and only aunt), Sarah Huffstetler, and wife, Caren; and his uncle, Steve Huffstetler, and wife, Donna; in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Church at the Cross on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a gathering at The Retreat.
