Kenneth Ray Haines, 77, of Justin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2024. He was born on May 31, 1947, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Deo and Patricia (Conley) Haines. Kenneth proudly served in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam from 1969 to March 1970. He later retired from a distinguished career at Vought in Dallas County.
Kenneth graduated from Lincolnview High School in 1968 and married Marie Donnel on August 29, 1970. Together, they shared a life filled with love and adventure, making memories on trips to places like Alaska, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and Hawaii. In 1994, they relocated to Justin, Texas, where they became active members of the First Baptist Church of Justin and regularly attended Happy Trails Cowboy Church in Glen Rose during their camping trips.
Kenneth is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Marie (Donnel) Haines; his daughters, Tonia (Haines) Gentolizo, of Haslet, Texas, and Amy (Haines) Wright, of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughters: Reva Gentolizo of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Maria Gentolizo of Keller, Texas; and Tiffani Wright of Arlington, Texas.
He also leaves behind his sister, Susan (Haines) Gnagy and her husband Jon, of North Manchester, Indiana; his sister-in-law, Nancy (Donnel) Mihm of Van Wert, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, including Andrew Gnagy and his wife Lauren, of Dansville, Indiana; Jim Mihm of Rockford, Ohio; Tara (Gnagy) Whicker and her husband Zak, of Winnabow, North Carolina; Vicky (Mihm) Perry and her husband Gerald, of Magnolia, Texas; Faith Whicker and Emily Whicker, both of Winnabow, North Carolina; and Hazel Gnagy, of Dansville, Indiana.
Kenneth will be remembered for his warm humor and loving nature. One cherished family memory involves a doctor’s visit when Kenneth was being examined to see if he had broken any bones. The doctor mentioned he was going to x-ray Kenneth's head, and with a completely serious face, Kenneth replied, "Well, the last time they x-rayed my head, they said they didn’t find anything up there!" The doctor laughed so hard, the family thought he might fall off his stool. It was moments like this that captured Kenneth's quick wit and ability to bring joy to those around him.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Keller’s Old Town Funeral Home in Keller, TX, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Military honors and interment will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family kindly requests no flowers or plants. If you wish to honor Ken, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association, US Veterans Affairs, or the First Baptist Church of Justin.
Kenneth’s legacy of love and laughter will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
