Nancy O'Brien Stocking

Nancy O’Brien Stocking, age 96, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, surrounded by her granddaughter. Her long life was marked by grace, steady devotion, and a joyful spirit that touched the lives of those who knew her. She was born on December 7, 1929, to Max and Ernie O’Brien, and throughout her years she carried herself with warmth, dignity, and an enduring appreciation for life’s many blessings.

Nancy was known first and foremost for her cheerful nature and her zest for life. She had a way of meeting the world with optimism and graciousness, and those qualities remained with her always. She and her spouse John B. Allen Jr. and three children lived abroad in Africa and the Bahamas and finally settling in South Florida. She was adventurous and social, deeply caring, and generous in spirit. Many will remember her not only for how she lived, but for the way she made people feel in her company—welcomed, valued, and uplifted.

Family was central to Nancy’s life, and she was devoted to those she loved. She is survived by her children, John Allen III, Judy Clower, and Mike Allen, as well as her seven grandchildren: John Allen, Mark Gervig Jr., Stephanie Spencer, Melissa Gervig, Jordan Clower, Megan Allen Willenbrock, and Mike Allen Jr. with 15 great grandchildren and a great grandson on the way. Her family was a source of joy and meaning, and her love for them was steadfast. She was the beloved wife of John B. Allen Jr. who passed, and later remarried to Jerome Thomas Stocking, and her memory will live on through the generations who were blessed to know her affection, her guidance, and her example.

Nancy embraced life with energy and curiosity. She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed horseback riding in the mountains, and boating in the Florida Keys, pursuits that reflected her active spirit and her enjoyment of the outdoors. She also loved travel and was drawn to the companionship and connection found in social gatherings, including her involvement with Ocean Reef social committees and numerous tennis clubs. These interests were more than pastimes; they were part of the vibrant, engaged way she lived her life. She believed in staying connected, staying curious, and making the most of every opportunity God placed before her.

Among the causes close to her heart was the Amarillo Children’s Center, a reflection of her caring nature and her concern for the well-being of others. Her life was characterized by giving, and she carried that generosity into the ways she supported her community. In all she did, Nancy offered a quiet witness to kindness, loyalty, and gratitude.

Her family and friends will remember her as someone who lived with faith in the goodness of life and in the importance of love shared among family and community. Her consistent positive attitude and zest for life were among her greatest gifts, and they remain a lasting part of her legacy. May she rest in the peace of our Lord and Savior, and may those who mourn her be comforted by the many cherished memories she leaves behind.
