January 6, 1937 - October 26, 2018.
Perlesta Elizabeth's spirit was sent to this earth on the 6th of January, 1937, born of Badian and Jamaican immigrants. Perlesta grew from humble beginnings, in the Rio Abajo Section of Panama, Central America. After her father passed away, at an early age, Perlesta's mother, Anna a strong, God fearing woman, raised Perlesta, and her six siblings in the discipline of the Christian Church. It was in church, where she met her first husband, Fitz Glasgow. His church choir was visiting her church. After marrying, Fitz joined the United States Army, initially as an artilleryman, then subsequently as a Vietnamese lingquist, Perlesta started her life as a military wife, moving all over the world, and raising four children in the process. On May 18, 1973, Perlesta was widowed when her husband passed away on active duty. He earned the Bronze Star. Perlesta was left to raise four children on a cashier's salary. She moved her family from Panama, to El Paso, Texas. By God's grace, Perlesta was able to acquire a home loan, find a job as a cashier, acquire a car loan, and enroll herself in college all firsts for her, and all while still in mourning. Perlesta worked, during the day as a cashier; and attended the University of Texas, El Paso at night. She earned bachelor's degree in education, with a specialty in bilingual education. She also worked as a customs agent on the Texas border. Perlesta retired after 23 years of service to the Ysleta School district, and married retired Army Master Sergeant, and retired teacher John James. They moved to Orangeburg, South Carolina, and immediately immersed themselves in church life, joining the choir, and even donating land to the church. On October 26, 2018, God called Perlesta's spirit back to be with him.
