Ronnie “Ron” William Lewis, age 78, passed away on August 20, 2026, at Morning Star Memory Care, in Fredericksburg, TX after living with Alzheimer’s Dementia for more than five years. His daughters were by his side.
Ron was born on December 28, 1947, in Mobile, AL to Ford and Tessie Lewis. His family moved to Andalusia when he was young. His childhood was filled with lots of time with his family, helping his brothers milk their cow, and taking care of their “pet” pig. His fondest childhood memories were under a huge chestnut tree where he spent hundreds of hours with his cousins, building cities in the dirt. His first wife, Judith (Henderson) Bryant, was his high school sweetheart. Together, they moved from Andalusia to Lakeland, FL where they gave birth to his first daughter,
Stephanie. He was a proud and present father.
Ron received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Auburn University and eventually moved to Tampa, FL with GTE. There he met Rosie (Naplen). Ron and Rosie married on Thanksgiving Day in 1979 with a small ceremony in Tampa’s Lowry Park. In 1982, they gave birth to his second daughter, Randi. They eventually moved to
Texas and made their life in Keller, TX. In 1993, they rededicated their marriage in the Catholic church where he was a devoted partitioner. They delighted in their small homestead, and supported, loved, and raised Randi. Ron and Rosie enjoyed entertaining friends through dress-up parties, playing dominos, and hosting fun gatherings. In a letter to Ron, penned before her passing in August of 2021, Rosie wrote, “when we started to date, I always felt you were my true soulmate.” He surely felt the same.
He worked dutifully to provide for his family, working for GTE through the transition to Verizon, until his early retirement in his mid-50s. Ron was an excellent communicator, and is remembered for building, managing and supporting teams that were charged with accomplishing difficult objectives. He had a knack for motivating and inspiring others. After retirement, he worked at the local golf course and small motor shop in Keller and where he delighted in helping customers.
Ron fancied a parade of fast and meticulously cared-for cars (and trucks, tractors and lawnmowers). While he aspired early-on to become a fighter pilot, he became a private pilot of 2- and 4-seater Cessnas. Both daughters fondly remember flights with their cool
Dad. He was wildly handy and kept his tools as clean and organized as his cars. He delighted in fixing things and building projects, for himself and others, until he simply couldn’t any longer.
He was the proudest Papa to his two grandsons: Hudson and Jude. His grandchildren were often found in Papa’s arms and gave him such great joy. Dad was equable, never raising his voice. He was always kind and patient. His daughters remember him losing his patience only twice: readying for church and when it
was time to go to Grandmother’s. He couldn’t get to Alabama soon enough. He was a consummate family man.
Even through Alzheimer’s Dementia, Dad made everyone around him love him. He made such an impact on all of his caregivers, and made friends wherever he was. We joked that he was practically the mayor at his residence.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ford Lewis (Florala, AL) and Tessie (Bass) Lewis (Andalusia, AL). Ron Lewis is survived by his two daughters Stephanie Lewis, of McDade, TX and Randi
(Lewis) Tatsch and husband, Taylor Tatsch, of Fredericksburg, TX; his two grandsons Hudson James and Jude William Tatsch (TX), and brothers Kylan Lewis (Scottsboro, AL), Frederic “Fred” Lewis (Carrolton, GA), Steve Lewis (AL), and sisters Pam Van Wyck (Saint Amant, LA), Susan Blackwell (Irvington, AL).
