I just saw that Shirley passed away in 2021.  Sorry for your loss.

I am the granddaughter of Serena Hall who was Shirley's foster mother in Boonesville Virginia.

I have a bible that Shirley gave "Mommie" Hall in 1958 and I was wondering if anyone in the family would like to have it.

My very first memory of Aunt Shirley is watching her sit on Uncle Jack's lap.  Somehow it always tickled me!
My very favorite memories however are when they paid us a visit when I was newly married.  They drove all the way to Valdez, Alaska!!  Here my hubby took Uncle Jack fishing with some pretty amazing fish stories to tell afterwards.
Meanwhile Aunt Shirley taught me how to hand quilt.  We managed to find all the supplies we needed in that tiny little town.  These memories have been tucked away in a special place in my heart that I cherish deeply!

Shirley (mom) really liked growing "Elephant Ears" I her daughter Sherri got her started with them in Colorado at her home. I even found one called "Jacks Giant"  . We didnt know if they would grow in Texas, but I sent her 2 ,for her birthday.  She  enjoyed watching them grow here and there. And in Texas she was so excited it BLOOMED! I've never had one bloom.  It was a fun thing between daughter and mother growing them, comparing how ours were growing, how big we could get them, and hers bloomed!! 

I remember mom exercising to "Jack la lane", watching "As the world turns" sun taning with baby oil.  And believe it or not, her and her neighbor friend Sue got LOTS of toilet paper, had a drink or two ( which my mom never drank alcohol) then they Teepeed their other neighbor friends house!! 
Mom would cook biscuits and gravy when we were camping and let us have a cup of coffee with as much sugar and cream as we wanted.  She would clean up my brother David when we were camping then in less then 5 min he was dirty again. Her and dad traveled to ALL 50 states, even drove to Alaska. She lived on her own for 20 years after dad passed, taking care of the house and the beautiful yard! Everyone knew mom as a strong woman! She loved her family, and loved watching it grow with all the grand kids and great grand kids and would say Jack and her started all this........ she will be missed, but know she is happy in Jack's arms and able to finally hold her baby girl ♡ 

Notes from Shirley Ann Carr (Fenton):

Youngest daughter of Alvin and Ruby Carr. Also grew up in a foster home with the Halls for eight years. After high school went to Colorado with sister Katherine. Worked for New York Life Insurance Co. Met and married Jack Fenton.

Jack's neighbor, Joann - (I worked with her) asked me to go home to met Jackie as she called him. I went home for spareribs dinner. Jack & brother Bob came over for supper. I really didn't like Jack, and he didn't like me. A couple of weeks later Joann went home from work and I got a call from Jack asking me to go out with him. (I always told him that Joann had a knife in his back making him call me.) I turned him down three nights in a row. But I did agree to go out with him on Monday night. We went to a DU Hockey game. He had such a beautiful smile and was a perfect gentleman. I fell in love with him that night.

He didn't call me again for a couple more weeks. After that we had three more dates that week and on Saturday he asked me to marry him. We were married three months later. Had to wait for his parents to come home from Texas. 

We had 44 wonderful years of marriage and from that wonderful marriage four children, one who died at birth. But we did raise three wonderful children, Stan, Sherri and David. They in turn with there wives and Husband gave us seven grand children. One grand daughter we lost at five months from SIDS. We both love and loved our family very much. They were our life.

When Jack retired from PSCO we decided we wanted to say we had been to fifty states. We started going on vacation, and by the time he died we had been to all fifty states.

She always had the most pristine back yard with flowers and fish pond
