

Thomas J. Austen, age 77, of Roanoke, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026. He was born on January 2, 1949, in Wisconsin, to Grace and Paul Austen.
Thomas proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. Following his military service, he continued his career with the State of California Department of Transportation, where he worked as an analyst.
Thomas enjoyed the things that brought him joy throughout his life, especially playing golf, watching football, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He loved to travel and experience new places, but above all, he loved his family more than anything. His family was his greatest source of pride and happiness.
Thomas is survived by his beloved spouse, Linn Austen; his children, Raymond Austen, Peter Austen, and Christopher Austen; and his daughters-in-law, Nellie Austen, Becky Austen, and Bridgette Austen.
He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Michael Austen, Allison Lawrence, Sabrina Morphis, Taylynn German, Peyton Austen, Ryan Austen, Tumi Austen, and Nife Austen, as well as his great-grandchildren, Videl Marie Kasy, Alina Austen, and Valam Morphis.
Thomas is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Patricia Luckmann and Richard Austen; his nieces, Karen Hayman, Michelle Prochnow, Amy Piontek, and Ann Marie Dobson; and his nephews, Jerry Paul Luckmann and Matthew Austen.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Paul Austen; his brothers, Robert Austen and Timothy Austen; and his nephew, Michael Austen.
Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love, family, service, and adventure. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of travel and sports, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. His family will forever cherish the time they shared with him and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
