Warren was born in 1943 in San Francisco, California and moved with his family to Glen Rose, Texas at the age of six. He went on to graduate from Texas Wesleyan University in 1967 with a degree in biology and later earned a master’s degree in psychology from the University of North Texas in 1969. That same year, Warren married the love of his life, Dixie Mabery, beginning a marriage of 56 years filled with devotion and partnership.
From 1969 to 1973, Warren proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in England. Those years abroad he often recalled as some of the happiest of his life.
In 1974, Warren began his career at Grapevine High School, where he spent 36 years as a teacher and counselor. Known for his steady presence, warm humor, and quiet wisdom, Warren touched the lives of countless students and colleagues before retiring in 2010.
Outside of work, Warren loved tennis, a passion he enjoyed for over 50 years and through which he built many close friendships. In retirement, he especially treasured traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Warren’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Marks; daughter, Heather Ortlieb (John); son, Brent Marks (Laura); brother, Gary Marks (Vickie); sisters, Judy Hagen (Bob) and Candy Schuelke (Mike); and grandchildren, Maddie, Ashley, Amelia, Teddy, and Sunny. He is also remembered by many extended family members and friends.
