March 14, 1929 – August 21, 2019
Jean Campbell was born in northern BC in Anyox on March 14, 1929 to Duncan and Marion Campbell.
Jean spent her youth in the small town of Premier, BC and moved to Vancouver in her teens, attending Magee Secondary School. She worked in a bank and then met
Mac Porteous and married him on May 5, 1950. They were married for 49 years.
Jean will be sadly missed by her sister, Sheila, brother, Doug, children, Graham, Wendy (Jim Scorgie), Stephen (Carol), Marilyn and Michael, grandchildren, Trisha (Joe Trainor), Ryan, Adam (Jamie) and Alicia and great- grandchildren, Devyn, Davis and Dorian.
Many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends will fondly remember Jean’s kindness, generosity and lovely smile.
Jean was a stay-at-home Mom until Mike was in Junior High and then did some up-grading and office work, working after Mac retired.
The bridge club was formed in the early 60s and this very close group of ladies supported each other through so many births, deaths and celebrations until Jean felt she had to leave in 2009. There were no changes in the group for at least 30 years. Jean and Mac were also in a mixed bridge group for many years.
While in Richmond, Jean was the driver for the TOPS ladies and casino runs. She enjoyed a walking group at the mall and another casual bridge club with the TOPS ladies.
She enjoyed singing, knitting, reading, baking and doing the word puzzle in the weekend paper. Jean loved to laugh.
Along with Mac, Jean travelled to Europe, across Canada and on many cruises. She also visited Wendy and Jim in China and Vietnam.
Jean moved to Kelowna in 2011 and her great-grandchildren brought her such joy. She did well with her Alzheimer’s disease until recent years and maintained her beautiful smile until the end.
The family will never be able to thank the kind staff at The Village at Mill Creek, Shannon Community. Their care and kindness towards Jean was extraordinary and we will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC would be greatly appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held at The Core at Apple Greene, 8800 Number 1 Road, Richmond on Saturday, October 5th at 2 PM.
Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, BC 250-762-2299.
