Hello Yvonne
We want to express our deepest condolences to you.  We were so saddened to hear of Uncle Allen's passing.  Our favorite memories of him are his laugh and his openness. He was always welcoming to us, even when we invaded with a toddler so many years ago (our son is now 33!).  He will be sorely missed.  Hopefully all you memories will provide you comfort at this time.

This picture of Uncle Allan is the picture I hold in my mind of him. Laughing. To me he was a funny and fun Uncle to be around. 

I will continue to smile when I think of you, Allan!

I read somewhere the you could count on one hand the real characters one meets in a lifetime -  people with an uniqueness who stand out in your memories.  In my mind Allan was one of those  personalities.  As a young boy observing from the sidelines he, himself not that old, exuded confidence, coolness, and to me a glimpse of the wild side of life. 

He was never shy to express his viewpoint. On visits back east the family, friends, and I am sure others knew clearly and without a doubt that he had a "slight" dislike for Eastern Canada.  To be fair one could say he had a love for Western Canada.  In any event he always made his opinions known. 

No one can argue that arriving to visit family and friends with your own "homemade beverage"  is not a sign of the mundane. 

Time and distance always cause relationship to fade so, unfortunately, I know little of Allan's days as "the shine man".  However, the tales of his adventures and comments that filtered back east did little to change my perception of his uniqueness.  

Here's to you Uncle Allan - A life well lived.
