We are sad to announce the passing of our brother and Uncle Al Benner who passed away November 7, 2019 at the age of 72 where he chose to end his pain after suffering a stroke two years ago and taking advantage of the Medically Assisted in Dying (M.A.I.D.)
Al was a world traveler having spent time traveling through Europe and Asia going overland through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan through to India, Al also spent 11 years of his later life living in Thailand, only recently returning to Canada.
Al was a huge sports fan, especially football. He was a member of UBC Thunderbirds Football Team in 1969-1970 and never lost the love of the game. Al had varied careers, working as a cabaret manager, he worked with the band Lover Boy in the early 80’s and was a co-founder /owner of Albee’s Sewing Center for more than a decade.
Al will be dearly missed by his family and remembered as a vibrant and unique individual. Al was predeceased by his parents Alice and Lorne Benner. He is survived by his sister Elaine (Vern) nephew Ken Rice and nieces Leah Allen and Kathy Rice. As per Al’s request there will be no service.
